Alex Wood was appointed CEO of PureGym in July 2026, having been CFO of the group since September 2018. Since joining PureGym, Alex has had a major impact on the Group’s performance, strategy and operations and has been instrumental in all aspects of the growth and development of PureGym in the UK, across Europe and in the USA. Notably, he spearheaded the successful acquisition and integration of the Blink Fitness business in the USA in 2024/25 and was instrumental in the earlier highly successful acquisition of the Fitness World business in Denmark and Switzerland.

Alex is a broad based business leader, having previously held the roles of CEO and CFO at Gala Bingo. Alex co-led a private equity backed management buy-out of Gala Bingo from Gala Coral Group, where he was previously Group M&A Director. At Gala Coral Group, Alex assisted the CEO and CFO with the carve out and disposal of several non-core divisions and subsequently the reverse of Coral Bookmakers into Ladbrokes Plc. Alex spent 13 years working in the corporate finance practice of KPMG having qualified as an ACA in 2003.

Alex is a former Great Britain Junior oarsman and was awarded a 1^st Class Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Nottingham University

Rebecca Passmore is Group Chief Operating Officer at PureGym, a role she has held for the last three years, with responsibility for leading the UK, Danish, Swiss, US, and Irish businesses. She has enjoyed an accelerated career within PureGym, joining as UK Operations Director in 2017 before progressing to UK Managing Director in 2020, and subsequently stepping into the Group COO role in 2023. Throughout her tenure, Rebecca has driven significant growth across the business, delivering strong results in expansion, EBITDA, and operational excellence, while building PureGym's reputation as a market leader in the fitness industry.

A highly experienced leader, Rebecca has led large, multi-disciplinary teams and is regarded as a true general manager with a broad and versatile skill set. She brings over 20 years of leadership experience across the retail and leisure sectors, predominantly within food, general merchandise, and fitness, having held senior roles at Aldi, Asda, TK Maxx, and Wickes. Rebecca holds a BA (Hons) degree in Business from the University of Nottingham and has completed an Executive MBA at Harvard Business School.

David Scott joined PureGym in January 2021 to lead the evolution of the group finance team as Group Financial Controller. Since then, he has held several roles including Interim Finance Director for both UK and Denmark and, most recently, Group Director of M&A. Over his tenure, David has developed in-depth knowledge and experience across the business, leaving him extremely well placed for the role of Interim Group Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining PureGym, David was Finance Director of Buzz Bingo (formerly Gala Bingo), the UK’s largest operator of low stake, high volume gaming venues. This followed the management buy-out of the business from Gala Coral Group, where he was an M&A consultant for 3 years. In his earlier career, David spent 13 years in the Corporate Finance practice of KPMG where he obtained his ACA qualification in 2000.

Laura May joined PureGym in 2012, when the business was in its infancy, and has held a number of key finance roles over the last 14 years of significant growth, including UK Finance Director and Group Director of Treasury.  The comprehensive skillset and insight accumulated over this tenure makes her very well placed to support the CEO in her role as Chief of Staff. Laura holds a BCom honours degree in Accounting from the University of Birmingham and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, having qualified with Deloitte in 2002 before leaving practice and gaining considerable financial leadership experience across a range of industries. Laura has also served as Non-Executive Director and Audit Chair of Ten Entertainment plc, a leading UK multisite leisure & hospitality operator.
