Improving people’s health & wellbeing, reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases, such as obesity & heart disease, & mental health problems

Through engagement with key stakeholders – colleagues, members, investors and third-party partners – PureGym has identified five key focus areas in which to develop its S-ESG strategy.

We are committed to ensuring our sustainability agenda is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to create meaningful links to broader global sustainably-driven outcomes.

ESG Performance Highlights

 
Environmental
  • A structured implementation program to fast-track energy reduction and decarbonisation is underway across estate, with emphasis on designing gyms with energy saving and “green” features.
  • 1,500+ energy-saving initiatives delivered in 2025 driving year on year emissions reduction.
  • Continued expansion in both quality and breadth of PureGym's global emissions reporting, incorporating all 4 key geographies, supporting enhanced transparency and climate-risk management.
Social
  • The Group's goal is to create a safe and positive space for everyone, so they can enjoy the benefits of fitness and wellbeing.
  • PureGym has millions of members across 4+ countries and supports healthier and more active communities through affordable, flexible fitness.
  • Our focus on gender balance is setting the tone for the gym industry, resulting in a 0% median pay gap and 2.0% mean pay gap for the UK in 2025.
  • PureGym has raised £2.5m+ through the British Heart Foundation partnership, alongside raising critical awareness of heart health across our estate.
  • Comprehensive safety and anti-harassment protocols are in place to support a welcoming environment for over 160 million annual member visits.
Governance
  • The Group's S-ESG strategy is overseen by the Governance Committee chaired by the CEO with at least four meetings per annum and reporting through to the Board of Directors.
  • Board-level oversight under the Wates Corporate Governance Principles, promoting transparency, accountability and long-term value creation.
  • Concerted efforts ensure a diverse and representative group of decision-makers, with 40% of Group Management Board being female.
  • The Group provides multiple routes for staff to communicate and raise issues with management team, including its whistleblowing policy and employee engagement forums to encourage equitable participation.
